Historical Event on 9/28/1964

The simmering dispute of India and Pakistan between the Hindus and Muslims erupted again in Kashmir. Fighting was also reported on this day in the Indian province of Rajasthan. China, which supported Pakistan in the dispute, sent massed troops on its border.

7/21/1911Umashankar Jethalal Joshi, famous Gujarati poet, Hindi writer and educationist, was born at Bamna in Gujarat.
12/16/1867Amy Carmichael, Scotch Irish missionary, was born. She went to India in 1895 under the Zenana Missionary Society, remaining there without furlough until her death 56 years later. An invalid during her last 20 years, she worked to rescue children from the Hindus.
7/4/1997Centre frees from its control nine top public sector undertakings, accounting for over Rs. 10,000 crore profits annually, to become global giants by providing them full financial and operational autonomy. This included newsprint and paper from licensing controls.

7/5/1968Naval Submarine wing in Indian Naval Force came into existence with the arrival of the first submarine from the Soviet Union.
