| 6/28/1972 | Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis died. He was the first founder of Indian statistical Institute to receive world recognition. In 1958, he started his national sample surveys. A Sample survey means assessing a situation by studying a part of it which would represent the whole, some of his proposals were included in the second five year paln. His original work made him elected as fellow of the Royal society in 1945. |

| 8/28/1976 | Admiral Dom Vasco-da-Gama (c.1469-1524)-I, Count of Vidigueira, met the Jamerin of Calicut after arriving in India three days ago at Malabar Coast. He was joined by an experienced Gujarati pilot at Malindi. He was the 6th Governor and 2nd Viceroy of India. |
| 7/18/1980 | Second Experimental launch of Space Launch Vehicle -3 (SLV-3) by Indian made 35 kilogram Rohini satellite (RS-1) successfully placed in orbit. It was used for measuring in-flight performance of second experimental launch of SLV-3. The launch took from Sriharikota and India became the sixth nation to put a satellite into orbit. |
