Historical Event on 3/10/1954

The history of 104 HU, the most prestigious and the oldest Helicopter Unit of the IAF, is studded with more than four decades of glorious past and yeomen service rendered to the country. One-O-Four was raised as Helicopter Flight at Palam on 10th March 1954.

12/12/1971The first aerial victory was when MiG-21FLs of No. 47 Squadron shot down a PAF F-104 over the Gulf of Kutch and this was followed by three more victories in quick succession on 17 December, when MiG-21FLs of No. 29 Squadron escorting HF-24 Maruts, shot down intercepting F-104s near Uttarlai in the Rajasthan desert in gun-missile encounters, while a third F-104, on an intruding mission, was shot down by another MiG 21FL of No.29 Squadron.

8/26/1997Commander of Uri sector Brigadier Jasbir Singh Lidder and another senior army officer have a narrow escape as Pakistani troops fire on their cavalcade at Chakori near LOC in J&K.
6/23/1985Air India Jumbo Jet Boeing 747 'Kanishka' which was travelling to Mumbai from Montreal crashed into the Atlantic Ocean after explosion near Ireland. 329 people on board died.
