6/23/1980Sanjay Gandhi, great Indian politician and younger son of Indira Gandhi, died in a plane crash. He was recently appointed as the General Secretary of the AICC (I).

12/12/1971The first aerial victory was when MiG-21FLs of No. 47 Squadron shot down a PAF F-104 over the Gulf of Kutch and this was followed by three more victories in quick succession on 17 December, when MiG-21FLs of No. 29 Squadron escorting HF-24 Maruts, shot down intercepting F-104s near Uttarlai in the Rajasthan desert in gun-missile encounters, while a third F-104, on an intruding mission, was shot down by another MiG 21FL of No.29 Squadron.

10/17/1817Syed Ahmad Khan, great social reformer, educationist, journalist, leader and one of the most eminent builders of modern India, was born in Delhi.
11/16/1877Ardaseer Cursetjee Wadia, professor, pioneer and innovator, died. He was the first Indian who was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society, London. 1/17/1905Dattaraya Ramchandra Kaprekar was born at Dahanu near Bombay. He discovered the shortest possible routes to solve mathematical problems. In 1927, he won the wrangler R. P. Paranjpe Mathematical Prize for an Original Piece of work in mathematics. He discovered 'Kaprekar Constant' in 1946. It is the number ""6174"". The constant 6174 is arrived at and this number then generates itself into one set of numbers called ""self numbers"" that is also known by his name. Kaprekar passed away in 1988.
