Historical Event on 1/15/1949
General K. N. Kariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief. He was the first Indian to reach to this post in Indian Army. In 1956, he was designated as Chief of the Army Staff - General, later Field Marshal. This event is commemoratively observed as Army Day.

| 7/14/1942 | Britishers Quit India resolution was passed by Congress Working Committee. They demanded departure of British and agreed on passive resistance until India's independence. It was declared on 8th August, 1942 at August Kranti Maidan (Gowalia Tank). |
| 12/3/1971 | During the ensuing melee, three of the Sabres were shot down while all Gnats returning to base were unscathed. The first blood of a new Indo-Pakistan air war had been drawn. Other encounters were to follow over the next 10 days within both Indian and Pakistani airspace, before a full-scale war began. |
| 5/2/1953 | 40 persons were reported losing their lives today in the first crash of a jet airliner in commercial service. The jetliner, a British-built Comet, plunged to earth in a violent storm just a few minutes after taking off from Calcutta. It was carrying a party of rubber and tin operators from Malaya to England. There were no survivors. Two Comets have crashed before, one last October and one in March, but neither was carrying passengers. |

| 1/3/1836 | Munshi Newal Kishore, son of Jamuna Prasad Bhargava--a zamindar of Aligarh-- and a great erudite scholar, educationist, nationalist, social worker and a pioneer industrialist, was born. He was the founder of Navalkishore Press, Lucknow (1858), which published 2612 books that elaborated Hindi literature. He was the Publisher of Awadhi Newspaper in Asia. |
