4/9/1965 | Fighting breaks out in the Rann of Kutch between Indian and Pakistani troops. Pakistan attacked Indian borders, Sardar Post, Chhar Bet and Beria Bet, this was manned by the State Armed Police Batallions. In Kutch launched its 8th Infantry Division supported by two regiments of M47/48 Pattons. Operation 'Desert Hawk' was launched to draw away reserves from other vulnerable areas, and possibly to test India's resolve. The Indian Army did not rise to the bait. |

12/28/1688 | Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb demolishes all temples (around 1,000) in Mathura. (During their reign, Muslim rulers had destroyed roughly 60,000 Hindu temples throughout India, constructing mosques on 3,000 sites). |
6/19/1995 | In an unprecedented move, UP Speaker Dhani Ram Verma adjourns the two-day special session called to prove Mayavati Government's majority in the House. Later, the House gathers, rejects the sine die adjournment and unanimously elects B.R. Verma (BSP) as new presiding officer to conduct the business of the House. |
3/31/1977 | N. K. Mukarji was appointed as the Cabinet Secretary of India. He held this office till 31-03-1980. |

6/28/1972 | Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis died. He was the first founder of Indian statistical Institute to receive world recognition. In 1958, he started his national sample surveys. A Sample survey means assessing a situation by studying a part of it which would represent the whole, some of his proposals were included in the second five year paln. His original work made him elected as fellow of the Royal society in 1945. |
